Associate School Programme
The Associate Schools Programme is a long-term partnership initiative connecting schools and regional theatres across England.
It is founded on the principle of collaboration, with schools working together in local partnerships to build strong communities of practice.
Since joining the Associate Schools Programme in 2017 as part of the Archibold cluster in Middlesbrough, St. Cuthbert's has developed a strong passion for Shakespeare. His works are now embedded in our Key Stage 2 curriculum, giving students the opportunity to engage with language, drama, and performance throughout their four-year journey.
In 2023, we proudly achieved Lead Associate School status, expanding its Shakespearean curriculum to Key Stage 1. Committed to inclusivity, the school strives to provide all children with access to high-quality arts education.
Macbeth
Pupils from four of our Trust schools took to the stage on Thursday 19th March for a spectacular performance of Macbeth at Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre – an incredible opportunity that our children embraced with confidence, talent and true creativity.
Pupils from St Cuthbert’s were joined in this performance by St Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary School, St John the Evangelist Catholic Primary School and St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School, coming together to bring Shakespeare’s famous tragedy to life. Supported by the Royal Shakespeare Company, pupils were given a truly inspiring platform to develop and showcase their oracy, storytelling and play‑making skills.
First Encounters: The Tempest

On Thursday, 20th February, St. Cuthbert’s had the honour of hosting The First Encounters: Shakespeare for Younger Audiences (RSC) for a captivating 80-minute performance of The Tempest.
This special event marked a significant milestone in the school’s journey as a lead associate school within the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Associate Schools Programme.
