The Gardening Club at St Cuthbert's Catholic Primary School in Hartlepool enjoyed a busy and rewarding afternoon yesterday as pupils planted a collection of new tree saplings on the school grounds. The session was filled with enthusiasm, teamwork and a shared commitment to creating a greener and healthier environment for the future.

Supporting Nature and Local Wildlife

The children planted a selection of UK native trees, including hazel, rowan and crab apple. These species were carefully chosen because they are well suited to the local environment and provide valuable food and shelter for a wide variety of wildlife. Over time, these trees will support birds, insects and small animals, helping to increase biodiversity across the school site.

The children are already excited to see the trees grow alongside them in the coming months and years. The saplings will eventually offer shade, shelter and a natural space that everyone in school can enjoy.

Trees Provided by The Woodland Trust

The saplings were generously supplied by The Woodland Trust as part of a nationwide initiative designed to help communities plant more native trees and reconnect with the natural world. By taking part in this initiative, St Cuthbert's is playing an active role in supporting environmental sustainability and encouraging pupils to develop a lifelong respect for nature.

A Greener Future for Our School Community

This planting session marks another step in the school's ongoing commitment to outdoor learning, environmental education and stewardship of the earth. The Gardening Club will continue to look after the new trees and monitor their growth each week.

Everyone at St Cuthbert's is looking forward to watching the saplings flourish and contribute to a healthier and greener future for the whole school community.
