Neither the cold wind nor the rain could stop our dedicated Gardening Club from enjoying a fun‑filled afternoon of nature activities this week! Despite the gloomy weather, the children were full of enthusiasm and ready to explore the wildlife around our school grounds.

As part of the RSPB Big Schools' Birdwatch 2026, the children used binoculars to spot and identify birds on our school field. They were excited to contribute their findings to this national wildlife survey, helping build a picture of how different bird species are doing across the country. Even though the weather wasn’t on our side, we still managed to spot Wood Pigeons, Crows, Starlings and a Blackbird. On sunnier days, we usually see a much wider range of visitors at our feeders — but the children were thrilled with their discoveries!

To involve even more pupils, the group organised a KS2 Scavenger Hunt, hiding pictures of garden birds around school. Any child who found one won a small prize, adding an extra layer of excitement to the day!

Our KS1 children were equally delighted, having the chance to look closely at some beautiful bird feathers brought in by one of our brilliant young gardeners. The stunning peacock feather was definitely the star of the show!

A huge well done to all of our Gardening Club members for their resilience, teamwork and love of nature. You brought so much joy to a very wet and windy day!
